Passing On Wisdom

wisdom_233wLast night, we wrapped up our Wisdom series. I have to admit, it was a fun one for me to do, because I’m a huge fan of learning. Of course, as we learned through the series, wisdom is a lot more than just knowing a lot of things. Wisdom is knowing what you know, you know. It’s taking knowledge, filtering it through experience in order to gain understanding.

Yet, it’s more than just that. Just having understanding isn’t enough. The real question is: What will I do with the wisdom I’ve gained? How will I pass it on to the next generation? I answer the question, what would I love to tell the next generation in this video on slicesoflife.ca, so I wont got into too much detail here.

However, let me put out a couple of thoughts and hopefully some of you will add your own thoughts in the comments section.

Whatever I pass on to my children, and my children’s children, had better be able to stand the test of time.

We talked about this last night. Foundations. If I build upon any foundation other than Christ, then at some point, it will crumble. I realize this is a strong statement: but no other foundation has proven itself trustworthy. Only God’s message, lived out through the life of Christ, and recorded in the pages of Scripture, has stood the test of time. Though critics have tried to dismiss it, discredit it, and challenge it, the message of Christ has proven to be the best foundation upon which we can build.

And so, that is what I do. Or at least, what I try to do.

In the slicesoflife.ca video, I speak about wanting to pass on to the next generation the desire to not be afraid to learn and discover God’s truth for themselves. If I could add to that, I would say that another thing I would love to pass on to the next generation is a healthy understanding of God’s grace. To truly understand what it means to begin your journey knowing that you know, you know that God loves you unconditionally.

Just imagine how incredible the spiritual journey could be if we truly lived as one already accepted, rather than live trying to gain acceptance. I know it sounds straightforward, and yet, it seems to be an area that so many struggle with.

So, that’s my “pass on”!

BTW, If you’d like to watch the video, you can find it here.
