Wisdom
March 2009
What does it take to truly be wise? What is wisdom?
Simply put,
Wisdom is knowledge.
Wisdom is the experience you’ve gained through knowledge.
Wisdom is making choices based on the experience you’ve gained through knowledge.
In Andrew Zuckerman’s book, Wisdom, there is an incredible quote from Bishop Desomon Tutu: “One of the greatest gifts we can give to another generation is our experience, our wisdom.”
Journey with us as we learn what it means to be wise. In these days of uncertainty, can there be anything more vital?
Week One: Knowledge | Week Two: Experience | Week Three: Choices
Week One: Knowing
We begin our new series, Wisdom, by asking a simple, but very profound question: Where do you want to be in your relationship with God ten years from now? And what do you need to know in order to grow into that place?
Every person has a calling. Every person has a purpose. The starting point for any follower of God is to discover what they were meant to do. That is done by looking at your s.h.a.p.e. Once we understand how God has “shaped” us, we should strive to gain as much knowledge to help us grow into the person we were designed to be. That’s where our discussion goes in this message.

Week Two: Knowing
It’s one thing to know a fact, it’s another thing to understand something. Understanding comes when you add experience to knowledge.
For instance, I can know that a motorcycle’s pipe gets hot because others have told me it does. But truly understanding how hot the pipe can be only comes from experience (and yes, I have first hand experience on this one!).
So, where do you gain understanding? Do you have to experience everything first hand in order to truly know that you know?

Week Three: Knowing
So, you have wisdom. Now, what are you going to do with it? What do you want to pass on to others? And, will the wisdom you pass on to your children, and your children’s children, stand the test of time? Is your foundation strong enough to hold what you build?
Check out this week’s talk as we look into some of those questions.
